In your site's screen stylesheet, you may have chosen to set margins and padding on the element (browsers set their own default values). If you have a print stylesheet, you will probably want to set the values for margin and padding to zero since the user's "print margins", as described above, must be assumed to be sufficient (and what the user wants).
